The Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture (VKIC) celebrated its 28th Foundation Day with grandeur and reverence, marking another milestone in its journey of cultural preservation and promotion. The event was held at the Gauhati Medical College & Hospital Auditorium, Bhangagarh, Guwahati, and witnessed the presence of distinguished guests, scholars, and cultural enthusiasts.

VKIC Sanmaan 2025 Conferred on Shri O. R. Shallam

A highlight of the celebration was the conferral of the prestigious VKIC Sanmaan 2025 on Shri O. R. Shallam, a dedicated promoter of traditional faith and an active community organizer from Meghalaya. Shri Shallam, the President of Sein ï Ktien new teh Jointia and Executive Member of Seinraij Jowai, has played a significant role in preserving the indigenous traditions of the region. With over 33 years of experience in education and cultural advocacy, he has been instrumental in strengthening the roots of traditional faith practices in Meghalaya.

Eminent Guests at the Event

The ceremony was graced by Prof. Nanigopal Mahanta, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University, who served as the Chief Guest and conferred the VKIC Sanmaan. Prof. Dilip Kumar Chakrabarti, a renowned archaeologist and Professor Emeritus of South Asian Archaeology at Cambridge University, attended as the Guest of Honour. Prof. Chakrabarti, a respected historian and a distinguished fellow of the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF), has made significant contributions to the field of Indian archaeology.

Cultural Highlights

Adding to the cultural vibrancy of the occasion, the Tiwa Community presented a special ritual performance, showcasing the rich heritage and traditions of the region.

VKIC’s Commitment to Cultural Preservation

As a cultural project of Vivekananda Kendra, the VKIC has been instrumental in documenting, promoting, and revitalizing the indigenous knowledge systems and traditions of Northeast India. The Foundation Day celebration reaffirmed its mission to carry forward the vision of Swami Vivekananda by fostering unity and cultural awareness.

With an overwhelming response and enthusiastic participation, the 28th Foundation Day of VKIC was a resounding success, reflecting the institute’s unwavering commitment to India's rich cultural legacy.
